The Medieval period was brutal, and gory. Death by fire was probably
the most painful way of putting someone to death. Burning at the stake
was a widely accepted form of punishment throughout most of Europe. The
Germans were especially fond of this form of execution. a careless slip
of the tongue and one could easily find him or herself on top of a
burning pyre. People who were burned had usually committed an act
against the church or church doctrine. Women were often accused of
witchcraft or being in league with the devil. A woman living alone with
a few cats always aroused suspicion especially if she was also a healer.
Life was barbarous and treachery was always around the corner. ☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼
