The Florentine School

1450-1750

.There was a radiance and dignity about Florentine art from the very beginning. It was never too passionate and extravagant, for the patrons that commissioned and purchased it. The Florentine painters were devoted to theological, classical, allegorical subjects, flowing compositions, soaring, broad lines, conspicuously dramatic colors. Florentine genius Michelangelo asserted "If it be true that any beautiful thing raises the pure and just desire of man from earth to God, the eternal fount of all, such I believe my love." By and large the painters of Florence were a much more emotional bunch  compared with their neighbors the Venetians.
