Piero della Francesca was one of the most innovative 15th century Italian artists, a pioneer of the Italian Renaissance who had considerable influence in the development of Italian art. He was born in the little town of Borgo San Sepolco, in 1420. His father was a prosperous businessman and importer, and Piero's early accomplishments imply that he was very well-read. Aside from his skill with a paint brush he was also a fascinated with mathematic with a intense curiosity in geometry. Francesca pioneered the use of perspective in early Renaissance painting and later in his career published five mathematical treatises.
